About The Academic Program

The College of Nursing at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University offers a Bachelor of Sciences in Midwifery program that prepares students to be registered midwives. The program focuses on the acquisition of knowledge derived from theories and concepts of women's social, psychological, and physical health, supported by linking information in a scientifically based manner. The program also features intensive clinical training, in addition to training in the college's laboratories and virtual laboratories in the simulation center. This is in line with the program's mission and vision of preparing midwives who are qualified scientifically, professionally, and research-wise to provide healthcare at a high level of efficiency to contribute to meeting the needs of the labor market in the field of midwifery.

Nature and Goals of the Program

• Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University offers the first Bachelor of Midwifery degree at the level of Saudi universities with the aim of graduating specialists in the field of midwifery. • The program was designed according to the approved professional and international standards.

1- Qualify distinct national cadres to work in the field of health care and midwifery, by providing an academic and administrative environment that motivate education, learning, training and creative thinking.
2- Encourage continuous education through participation in professional self-development, and teamwork activities.
3- Promote community services through health awareness, participation and independent working in healthcare settings
4- Improve midwifery care and health care services through research and leadership capabilities to improve midwifery care and health services.

1. Demonstrate the ability to autonomously provide care to women with normal, high-risk pregnancies, childbirths and postpartum periods, as well as normal newborn care, in a variety of settings.
2. Assess, diagnose and appropriately manage common complications in the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods.
3. Recognize complications and apply effective referral of care to other providers within the healthcare system, and collaborate effectively for positive client outcomes.
4. Utilize critical thinking abilities by referencing evidence-informed practice principles and by integrating ethical and legal issues into their care of women.
5. Communicate with women in a way that validates the client’s knowledge and experience while encouraging personal responsibility in shared decision-making and informed choice.
6. Demonstrate competency in dealing with various ethical issues related to women’s health.
7. Develop an ethical framework to guide one’s advanced Midwifery role and foster one’s leadership and continued growth within the midwifery profession.
8. Develop a competent, caring midwife who is able to provide flexible, and women cantered care in a variety of settings.
9. Develop a practitioner who is able to utilize relevant research to improve evidence – based practice.
10. Provide primary health care to healthy women from adolescence through post- menopause.
11. Monitor fetal growth and wellbeing during prenatal period and assess the neonate’s adaptation to extra uterine life.
12.Perform comprehensive neonatal assessment, facilitate newborn’s integration into the family, and provide guidance related to infant care.
