​About the Department

 The Guidance and Counseling Department is part of the Vice Deanship of Student Services within the Deanship of Student Affairs. It provides counseling and educational services to university students through the following sub-units:

1. Psychological and Social Support Unit:

This unit aims to offer quality services and activities in the field of counseling along with psychological and social support for students. This is facilitated through the psychological and social counseling offices located in the colleges and institutes, as well as the student care office (Malath) in the recreational center, Building 190, first floor, Office No. (1.307).

2. Student Rights Protection Unit:

This unit aims to educate students about their rights and responsibilities, offering legal consultations and guidance on obtaining their university rights. It also receives complaints and works to resolve them according to university regulations.

3. Guidance Unit: ​

The Guidance Unit focuses on raising self-awareness among students by educating them about university regulations and policies. It seeks to promote values, ethics, and public decorum while enforcing codes of conduct and student discipline.

 

Services provided by the social worker:

  • Studying the cases of students applying to benefit from the aid service, and exceptional cases of applicants requesting university housing and childcare.

  • Conducting individual interviews with the student to collect all data and information related to the problem.

  • Comprehensive assessment to determine the nature and type of the problem, and the extent of the need to refer her to the psychological specialist.

  • Referring the student according to her needs to the entities that contribute to solving the student's problem, while following up on her case to ensure the level of case development for the better.

  • Implementing rehabilitative therapeutic plans in cooperation with the psychological specialist.

  • Contributing to observing and monitoring students' academic and social problems within the college.

  • Planning and implementing preventive and therapeutic programs and activities that suit the student's needs in a way that contributes to addressing academic and social problems.

  • Continuous development of the level of counseling services for students at the college and empowering the student to access services within the university, in addition to raising proposals that contribute to improving the university environment for the student.


Services provided by the psychological specialist

  • Conducting psychological counseling through individual psychological sessions and group therapy sessions.
  • Applying psychological scales to diagnose the nature and severity of the psychological disorder.
  • Comprehensive assessment to determine the nature and type of the problem, and the extent of the need to refer it to psychiatric treatment.
  • Designing and implementing rehabilitative therapeutic plans in cooperation with the social worker.
  • Cooperating with King Abdullah University Hospital in some cases that require medical intervention.
  • Contributing to observing and monitoring students' psychological problems at the university.
  • Planning and implementing preventive and therapeutic programs and activities that contribute to addressing psychological problems.
  • Contributing to achieving standards for promoting mental health within the university​
