Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department:

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department is a vital unit of the Natural and Health Sciences Research Center. It focuses on enhancing health research and training for the staff and students of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital. The department specializes in studying patterns of health events and applying statistical methods in biology. It offers research, education, and collaboration opportunities both internally and externally to improve health through epidemiological studies of individuals and communities.

Key Objectives:

  • Enhancing Scientific Knowledge:

    • Supporting and developing research that enhances the fundamental understanding of health sciences.
    • Encouraging research in advanced fields such as research methodology, statistics, and data analysis.
  • Training and Capacity Building:

    • Training researchers and students in scientific and statistical research skills.
    • Providing foundational research support in biostatistics and epidemiology.

Outcomes:

  • Published Research:

    • Producing scientific articles and research findings published in leading scientific journals.
    • Presenting research at international conferences and seminars to exchange results and expertise.
  • Innovations and New Applications:

    • Developing the first comprehensive Arabic Health Measurement Database (AHM) to help users select, access, and evaluate health measurement tools. The initiative aims to increase the number of reliable Arabic health measures by providing guidelines for translating tools, ensuring their accuracy, and offering opportunities for collaboration with other researchers on such projects.
  • Training and Education:

    • Graduating well-trained researchers who are proficient in research methodology.
    • Organizing workshops and specialized courses to enhance research skills.
    • Promoting applied scientific innovation in health sciences research by fostering an integrated research environment and stimulating scientific progress.

Services Provided:

  1. Data Clinic:

    • A free research consultancy service that helps researchers conduct sound and ethical research by providing guidance on research methodology, including: selecting a research question, writing study objectives, choosing an appropriate study design, designing surveys, selecting the sample and calculating sample size, as well as data analysis and interpretation.
