Second Foreign Language (English2) course intended to provide students with a foundation from which they can advance to A2 Academic English on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). A2 learners can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment, they can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters, and they can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. Additionally, for this course, there is considerable focus on developing and integrating the relevant critical thinking skills learners will need for academic life and the 21st century workplace.
It is a fourteen-week module course with 3 hours of instruction each week.It develops students’ ability to think critically in an academic context right from the start of their language learning with a better mix of higher-and-lower-order critical skills which is measurable with objectives so students can track their progress. It is transparent so students know when and why they are developing critical skills
