Dr. Liena Elsayed (MBBS, MSc. Molecular Medicine, Ph.D., FHEA) is a qualified researcher and assistant professor of biochemistry, medical genetics & genomics, and neuroscience:
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. with Highest mention of Honor: Sorbonne University (UPMC), France. MSc. Molecular Medicine with a Certificate of Academic Excellence from the University of Khartoum, Sudan. MBBS: Faculty of Medicine/ University of Khartoum. Fellowship of Advance Higher Education (FHEA), UK, and the Certificate of Academic Excellence program- Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning-KSA. Royal College of Medicine Examinations (MRCP)-UK: part 1 and part 2 written Honored as she attained the 4th highest score in the country (Sudan) in the higher secondary school examination.
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: Highly active in research focusing on genomics, medical genetics, and neuroscience, with up to 30 publications in indexed international journals with high ranking and impact factors (including a book chapter with Cambridge University Press, UK). Based on a long experience as the founder and leader of a pioneer Sudanese-French collaborative neurogenetic team and project, established a research team based in the College of Medicine, PNU. The team was registered as a research group in the King Salman Center for Disability Research. and collaborates with the Health Sciences Research Center (HSRC), King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital, and other PNU colleges. The team is a multidisciplinary, multinational, and multigenerational team running three projects on Mendelian (focus: neurogenetic disorders) in KSA with collaborations with national, regional, and international universities and research institutions (France, Germany, UK, and USA). Quite active in community services, raising community awareness of medical and health issues related to her field of specialization, which, together with her research projects, are in line with the vision of the KSA 2030 in enabling women in research and fostering their role as scientists and with the initiative of the Saudi Genome Program, inaugurated by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to reduce the occurrence of genetic diseases. Through her studies of the genetics of the Sudanese and Saudi populations, Dr. Elsayed discovered several new "GENES" and inherited diseases and identified them as causes of human disease for the first time worldwide.
She regularly attends international conferences, is a scientific reviewer for international journals and publishers, and is a member of international scientific societies.
