About PNU

PNU is one of the outcomes of the attention given to the higher education of women. It is a comprehensive university for women, renowned for its academic leadership and scientific research that contributes to the establishment of an economy of knowledge with societal and international partnerships. In 1427 AH, a royal order was issued for the establishment of the first university for women in Riyadh, under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education. This included the six colleges located in Riyadh, in addition to a number of new colleges established for the purpose of women's education and development in the Kingdom. The university was inaugurated in 1428 AH with the appointment of its first rector, H.H. Dr. Al-Jawhara bint Fahd Al-Saud.

On Wednesday, 29/10/1429 AH, the university was honored with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques placing the cornerstone for the university campus. His Majesty at that time saw it best to change the name to Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU); Princess Nourah being the sister of the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the late King Abdul Aziz bin Abdulrahman.

PNU continuously seeks to achieve excellence and influence the higher education of women, hence resolving to the implementation of the best strategies aiming to merge the values of education, research, involvement, and social responsibility, in addition to the continuous strategic development of academic programs; the implementation of knowledge and academic partnerships with renowned institutions for higher education worldwide; and the organization of scientific and cultural conferences, seminars, and events, to ensure the development of human capital and their reinforcement with the advanced skills that will enable them to meet current challenges and participate to the formation of a bright and safe future.

PNU offers a myriad of programs for both undergraduates and postgraduates, through fifteen colleges that cover different specializations, in addition to the Preparatory Year and the Foundation Year programs, the Institute for Teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic Speakers, and the university hospital where all students of health sciences train. PNU also includes a main library, a number of supporting deanships, and research and services centers that all aim to support all academic and educational aspects. All of this is provided through a framework of attractive eco-friendly facilities in a technically prepared environment that accommodates the academic and psychological needs of the students.

PNU receives great support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty KKing Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and from its Rector, Dr. Hoda bint Mohamed Al-Ameel; who is a testament to the opportunities provided for Saudi Women to become leaders of great universities for women worldwide.
